Dept. of Neural Information Processing, University of Ulm
Since September 1997, I am PhD student at the Department of
Neural Information Processing, working in the
SFB 527 "Integration
of Symbolic and Subsymbolic Information Processing in Adaptive
Sensorimotor Systems".

Robotics
Map Building for Autonomous Mobile Robots
In my Diploma thesis "Realtime Sensor Fusion and Map-Building
for a Mobile Robot" I present a general architecture for
grid-based map-building. The embedding of several commonly used
methods into this formal framework is discussed and the
experimental map-building system MABS for the Pioneer
1 robot is described.
For my PhD research in dynamic world modeling, I am using our
B21 robot Stanislav.

Neural Networks
The C1 project
I am working in is called "Neurosymbolic Integration and Spatial
Representation" and is concerned with various aspects for
integrating
symbolic and neural methods. In this field, I am interested in
performing sensor interpretation and fusion using neural networks.
Uncertainty
I am particularly interested in representing uncertain information
especially in spatial representations. For that, I am studying
Bayes' , Dempster-Shafer, Fuzzy, and other calculi and their
relation to neural networks.
