Motion and Logmap
Special types of global motion patterns consisting of
circular, radial or spiral flow fields can easily be
detected if the complex logarithmic transformation is
applied on the input pattern (Neumann, H., Bayerl, P.: Bewegungswahrnehmung - die Illusion der Realität. Nervenheilkunde, 22, 322-324, 2003).
Motion patterns evolving from self-motion - and
therefore mainly consist of radial flow - can easily
be detected with such a representation (Seifart, F., Bayerl, P., Neumann, H.: The role of log polar mapping for heading estimation and heading representation in a model of motion integration. TWK'03).
